AFL Grand Final Parking

Event parking near the MCG for the AFL Grand Final

Looking for AFL Grand Final parking in Melbourne? The 2026 AFL Grand Final kicks off at the MCG on Saturday, 26 September, with a capacity crowd expected across the ground. At First Parking, we have three car park options within easy reach, each on a different walking route into the precinct.

Collins Place is the strongest option for a straightforward walk to Gate 2, with Parkade and 300 Flinders Street available nearby. Our car parks all operate on a flat-rate model (no event rates or price-per-hour), plus a discount on the drive-up rate for Express members. Simply drive in, park and pay on exit. Find your preferred location and check car park access times, vehicle height restrictions and daily prices in advance before you travel.

Choose the car park that suits your route

Collins Place is the closest First Parking option to the MCG. Enter the car park via 28 Flinders Lane. Our standard weekend parking rate applies (with a discount for Express members). Collins Place car park is a 1.1km walk from Gate 2 of the MCG. Follow Exhibition Street, Batman Avenue and the William Barak Bridge.

Parkade sits on the same route, a little further along, on Little Collins Street. It’s a handy backup if Collins Place is full on the day. Entry is from the First Parking Parkade from McIlwraith Lane via 34–60 Little Collins or 55 Bourke Street. Parking availability may be limited as kick-off draws near, so it is worth arriving early.

300 Flinders Street is a different approach altogether. It’s right by Flinders Street Station (entry via Flinders Street), so it suits anyone arriving from the station side of the CBD. This First Parking facility suits footy fans planning to catch a train or tram to the venue.

Public transport steps from our car parks

Public transport is worth planning for on Grand Final day, with a capacity crowd expected across the city as well as the ground. Jolimont and Richmond are the closest train stations to the MCG, and extra services typically run before and after the match.

By train via Jolimont

If you choose to park at our 300 Flinders Street facility, take any Hurstbridge or Mernda line train from Flinders Street Station to Jolimont Station. Travelling as a city loop, the journey to Jolimont takes approximately 12 minutes. Jolimont Station is a straightforward 5-minute walk across Yarra Park, which leads you directly to Gates 1, 2, 3 and 4. After the game, you can find yourself back at Flinders Street after 1 stop (3 minutes).

By train via Richmond

Alternatively, catch any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Frankston or Sandringham lines from Flinders Street Station to Richmond Station. This trip takes approximately 4 minutes. From there, you may choose an 850m walk, a brief trip via tram Route 70 (exit at Stop 7C for MCG Gates 4–7), or if you have accessibility requirements, the MCG offers a free G-Train Mobility Shuttle Service for patrons from Richmond Station to the gates.

By tram

Extra trams often run on Grand Final day as well, with the Free Tram Zone frequently extended to cover the MCG precinct. Whether you are parked with First Parking at Collins Place, Parkade or Flinders Street, tram Route 75 and Route 70 both connect you directly from the CBD to the MCG. Route 75 drops you on Wellington Parade, a short 300-400 m walk to Gates 2 and 3. Route 70 heads past Rod Laver Arena, detouring via Melbourne Park onto Olympic Boulevard. From there, walk across the footbridge to Gates 1–7.

Plan your journey with Transport Victoria before you travel and check current train, tram and bus services. Please note that timetables and stops may be adjusted for the event.

Plan ahead for AFL Grand Final parking

The AFL Grand Final is one of the biggest dates in Melbourne’s calendar, with the public holiday falling the day before on Friday, 25 September. A long weekend means extra people from across Australia are heading to Melbourne, and roads will be busier, so a little parking planning goes a long way. No need to book, just find us on the map and head straight there.

Express members get ticketless entry with licence plate recognition, automatic payment linked to a registered card and discounted drive-up rates. Non-members can still use ticketed entry and pay by card at the pay station or exit gate.

For further information, check the MCG’s official site and Transport Victoria for the latest access, closure and transport updates before you head in.
